Preventing diabetes, the deadly “D”

November is diabetes prevention month.  Do you really think November is the best month to make us aware of diabetes with Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner?

I mean, come on, all that yummy delicious food and home baked goodies! How can anyone turn that down? If we understood the real risk of diabetes, maybe we would make better choices during the holiday season.

Diabetes is real, just like that pumpkin pie that will appear on your plate. But diabetes is no joking matter.

In 2015, the American Diabetes Association reported that 30.3 million children and adults have diabetes. That’s almost 10% of Americans. 7.2 million of those with diabetes are undiagnosed and 1.25 million have type 1 diabetes. Worst of all, diabetes is the 7th leading cause of death in the United States.

Yikes.

So, please don’t pretend that this will not be a problem for you. It is affecting all of us. It runs in my family and in most likely yours too.

So what are some ways that you can help prevent your risk of diabetes?

Here are 3 things that you can do:

1. Clean Eating – avoid empty calories found in sweets, processed foods and soda (EVEN DIET SODA) and avoid eating late at night.

2. Exercise – any kind of exercise is GOOD – even walking for 30 minutes everyday can make a huge impact on your health.

3. Take your Vitamins – here are several supplements that have positive affect and support your body’s ability to fight the deadly “D”: (Fish oil, Vitamin D3, B-Vitamins, Minerals, Fiber, Protein)
